On Tour: A Collection Built on Relationships

A Collection Built on Relationships: Inuit Art from the Art Gallery of Northumberland’s Permanent Collection, curated by Felicity Pope and Olinda Casimiro, is now on view at the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives in Lindsay, ON.

As part of the preparation for this touring exhibition, the AGN completed several significant collections management projects, most notably a large-scale rehousing of the collection led by Breanna Brethour, Collections Manager, alongside Alexis Gago, Collections Assistant. Together, Brethour and Gago carefully designed and fabricated custom archival housing for each object using museum-grade materials that meet conservation standards for safe storage and handling.

With the new housing in place, Lindsay Fler, Cultural Heritage Manager, created custom mounts for select pieces to ensure their safety while on display in Lindsay, ON. The installation at the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives was completed with the assistance of Zoe Chevalier, Collections and Curatorial Assistant, who supported the careful placement and final presentation of the works.

Keep an eye out for updates and for the exhibition’s official opening date at the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives!

This significant collection, donated to the AGN in 1976, includes approximately sixty Inuit carvings, sculptures, and cultural materials dating from 1900 to 1970. These works offer invaluable insight into Inuit artistic practices and lived experiences during a period of profound cultural change.
