The Art Gallery of Northumberland is a public art gallery, dedicated to the stewardship, preservation, and growth of its Permanent Collection. The collection includes historical pieces that reflect the development of Northumberland County, featuring portraits of notable citizens, regional landscapes, and related works. It also encompasses a diverse range of 20th-century paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
The historical holdings reflect the development of Northumberland County through portraits of notable citizens, landscapes of the region, and related works that document the area’s cultural history. The Collection also includes a significant representation of 20th-century paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. Central to our mandate is a deep commitment to public access and education. The AGN serves as an accessible resource for learning, research, and community engagement, ensuring that the Collection remains meaningful and available to present and future generations.

A Cup of Conversation
Designed to foster meaningful dialogue, each session offers a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about creative processes, curatorial perspectives, and the stories behind the work on view. Set within the inspiring atmosphere of the gallery, these gatherings encourage curiosity, questions, and open exchange. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a practicing artist, or simply interested in learning more about contemporary and historical art, A Cup of Conversation provides a welcoming space to deepen your understanding and appreciation of the arts—one conversation at a time.

Exhibition Proposals
The Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) is committed to exhibiting work that advances critical enquiry and community connection to contemporary visual arts.
The Gallery accepts proposals from artists working in all media, artist collectives, curators and arts/cultural institutions.
The AGN’s exhibition program is developed by Curatorial Staff in dialogue with the AGN’s Exhibitions Committee. Only digital submissions are accepted. You are welcome to send a CV, artist statement or curatorial proposal, and digital images (web links preferred).
Submissions will be reviewed on an on-going basis, however only proposals of interest will receive a reply. Materials submitted will not be returned. Please note exhibitions are booked at least 2 years in advance.
