Immersive Site-Specific Exhibition Amongst the Yawns and Dust Now on View

April 18, 2023

COBOURG, ON (April 18, 2023) – The Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) is pleased to invite the public to view current solo exhibition, Amongst the Yawns and Dust, showcasing 28 works of art by artist Jay Dart on view until June 4, 2023. “In addition to showing drawings at the Art Gallery of Northumberland, I’m excited to be exhibiting a video titled Distance: Existence that I began during a recent artist residency with Critical Mass in Port Hope,” said Jay Dart. This animated drawing piece features voices from Northumberland families – including my own – as I explore themes of land ownership, ecological stewardship, and airborne transmissions to expand on allegories that I’m developing in the Yawnderverse.”

The Amongst the Yawns and Dust exhibition promises an immersive site-specific experience featuring mixed media installations with wall drawings in between the panels to present conjoined scenes for epic landscapes. Viewers will see new works alongside a selection of pieces from recent chapters in Dart’s Yawnder series including drawings on paper from Chapter VI: Return to Elsewheres and drawings on canvas titled Amongst the Dust.

“Yawnder is a mindscape and Jiggs serves as Dart’s avatar and provides the voice for the narrative,” said Olinda Casimiro, Executive Director for the Art Gallery of Northumberland. “Within this ongoing internal saga viewers will see the artist’s creative experiences and how they flow from canvas to wall.” Jay Dart is a Canadian drawist, author and designer whose practice includes bookworks, animated videos and mixed media installations. Dart’s work has been shown in galleries and art fairs including exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Regina; as well as internationally in Paris, New York, and Amsterdam.
